The family of man who suffered brain injuries after being struck by a collapsing roof at the Little Panda restaurant in Lubbock, Texas has filed a personal injury lawsuit against the building owner, its general partner, and Trustreet Properties Inc. (TSY).
Daniel Perez, 39, was in the restaurant when the roof and a portion of the building's front wall collapsed and fell on the people inside on March 20, 2006. Perez was at Little Panda to service the air conditioning when the roof fell.
Tara Wilson, 23, was killed in the disaster, which injured eight other people in addition to Perez.
"Daniel will never be the same," says Perez's personal injury lawyer. "Not only is he no longer able to support his family, but he may need a lifetime of constant care."
Perez remains hospitalized at Covenant Medical Center where doctors are evaluating and treating his brain injuries. He suffers from memory loss, blurred vision, headaches, and difficulty speaking. He also requires all day care and assistance for even the simplest tasks.
Trustreet Properties is a real estate investment trust that purchases properties and leases them to restaurant owners. It maintains financial interest in more than 2,000 properties in 49 states, including Burger King, Jack in the Box, Wendy's and other restaurants.
