AIG Tests GPS Program on New Pennsylvania Teen Drivers

Back to Auto Accidents

AIG Auto Insurance will pilot a program in six states including Pennsylvania, which allows parents to monitor the whereabouts of their children while they are driving.

After installation of a global position device, parents will be able to track their children's position by the Internet or mobile phone. The new program can also be set up to send an instant alert via text message or e-mail if the child is driving faster than a pre-defined speed or if they drove beyond a designated area.

The program will initially be piloted in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Illinois, New Jersey, Washington, and South Carolina.

The goal of the program is to reduce auto accidents, which is the leading cause of death for people between 16 and 20 years old.

Data from the GPS will not be stored by AIG, nor will it impact auto insurance rates. AIG will charge customers an additional fee for using the program.
