Alcohol-related auto accidents in Pennsylvania, remains a top safety issue and area of concern for the state's public safety departments. The following is an updated list of alcohol-related Pennsylvania auto accident statistics:
- 13,616 alcohol-related auto accidents occurred in Pennsylvania, which is an increase from 13,179 in 2005
- 545 alcohol-related auto accident deaths occurred, which is a decrease from 580 in 2005
- Each day 37 alcohol-related auto accident occurred in Pennsylvania in 2006
- On average, 1.5 people were killed each day due to alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes
- On average, 29 people were injured each day due to auto crashes involving alcohol
- 36% of all auto accident deaths were from alcohol-related incidents
- 78% of drinking drivers involved in car crashes were male
- 79% of alcohol-related auto wrecks occurred during the night on weekends
- 11% of all auto accidents in Pennsylvania involved alcohol
- Alcohol-related auto crashes were over 3 times as likely to result in death than those not related to alcohol
- Alcohol-related crashes that occurred between 8pm and 4am produced 66% of deaths
- 15% of holiday car crashes involved alcohol use
- 10.6% of drinking drivers involved in auto accidents in 2006 were operating a motorcycle
- In 2006, the age group of 21-30 year olds had the highest percentage of drinking drivers involved in a crash
